‘Blank Tape Club’ is my show on WZBC this summer. The show airs Tuesdays 7-9 am, meaning that on Tuesday I am awake before most of Allston.
Since it is early, I try to start the show slow and droney, then move on to spacey psych-pop, then more upbeat/jangly noisepop, and end with heavier garage rock stuff.
I am excited about ~blank tape club~ and hope it lasts longer than one summer. The ‘blank’ refers more so to the characters involved, versus the state of an actual blank tape. The name was inspired by the film Blank City and the song “Blank Generation”, and also sort of by online music communities, which sometimes seem like updated interpretations of tape clubs to me.
It’s nice to not be restricted to only playing new music — instead I can play whatever I’m feeling at the moment which is pretty fun. I know there are people listening but since it is so early I’ve often forgotten that I’m not just playing music for myself.
